What is a Transfer Case?
The transfer case is a part of the drive train in all-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive vehicles, and receives power from the transmission to both the front and rear axles. This can be done with gears, hydraulics, or a chain drive.
Manual Shift On-the-Fly transfer cases have a selector lever on the driver’s side floor transmission hump and, in addition, may have either two sealed automatic front axle locking hubs or two manual front axle hub selectors of “LOCK” and “UNLOCK” or “FREE”.
Electronic Shift On-the-Fly (ESOF) transfer cases have a dash-mounted selector switch or buttons with front sealed automatic locking axle hubs or drive flanges. Some vehicles, such as Jeeps, also have what is called SelecTrac, which has a slider switch on the center console. Unlike the manual transfer case, this system has a transfer case motor.
A-affordable Transmissions Center Transfer Case Repair Service Always Includes A Visual Inspection.
Removal and replacement of damaged internal gears. Bearings, gaskets and seals in the transfer case are also replaced when needed. Our technicians rebuild or repair the transfer case in your auto, and only replace parts if they have gone bad. We warranty the entire transfer case when we are done.

All Wheel Drive
All-wheel drive cars and trucks have a transfer case that is typically on and transmitting power to all wheels at all times. However, some all-wheel drive transfer cases only transfer power to all four wheels when slippage of the wheels is detected by special sensors, which are used to control the transfer case percentage of application and operation. Most transfer cases can be shifted manually or may have an electronic switch to use for transfer case mode operation. Some all-wheel drive vehicles do not require a switch or a lever. This type of transfer case is four-wheel drive at all times.

A Transfer Case Is Unique To Four Wheel Drive Auto & Truck And Is What Directs Power To Both The Front And Rear Differential Of The Auto Through Two Separate Driveshafts.
Rear drive vehicles don’t need a transfer case because the driveshaft comes directly out of the transmission to the drive wheels via the rear differential.
These devices allow an all-wheel-drive system to function properly on any surface. The transfer case on a part-time four-wheel-drive system locks the front-axle driveshaft to the rear-axle driveshaft, so the wheels are forced to spin at the same speed.
Four Wheel Drive Systems Allow All Four Wheels On A Vehicle To Spin Simultaneously
All 4WD vehicles have a transfer case between the front and rear axles that prevents the axles from spinning at different speeds. The transfer case allows the engine to provide maximum torque to the axle and wheels in order to maintain traction. Different 4WD configurations exist, and each variation employs different technologies to meet the needs of the driver. Some 4WD systems have a locking differential.
This means both wheels on the axle will turn together to achieve maximum traction. Another variation is the limited-slip differential. It can detect a slide or slip in one wheel and send torque to the other wheel to regain traction. A manual hub requires users to manually engage the front wheel drive mechanism in order to fully engage the 4WD system, while an automatic hub allows users to automatically command the front wheels in order to engage the 4WD system.
Our Service Staff Has Extensive Experience Working On All Types Of 4wd Systems.
